The work I did with Felix Clem in Psychologies Magazine led to her assertion that our coaching had convinced her she could manage her menopausal symptoms without the need for HRT. The power of life coaching and hypnotherapy for helping women through the menopause cannot be overstated.

Menopause is a difficult time for many women. You’ve got the physical stuff going on – the sleep disturbances, night sweats, hot flushes, increased anxiety and stress…and yet you’re trying to continue with life in the way you always have. You might have a job, children, elderly parents and a host of responsibilities – and you’re trying to do all that whilst feeling absolutely crap and exhausted!

Menopause is also a time when you might be confronting difficult life changes. Children might be leaving home. Parents might be ageing and need care. And in a time when youth is so ridiculously highly valued, you might feel that your own ageing is a negative transition.

So far so negative! But I believe that the menopause is an amazing opportunity for you to have a good look at your life and decide which direction you want it to go in. Without overstating things, this is you roughly at the half way point of your life. When you’re younger, you tend to go along a bit directionless some of the time – you’ve got plenty of time to waste, after all. The menopause can be a great wake up call – change things now if things need changed! You’ve probably spent half your life caring for other people and putting yourself last – this is your opportunity to stop doing that.

Start putting yourself first! What do you want from life? How can you nurture yourself, physically and mentally, while you need it. What menopause options are available to you? HRT may be the right choice for many women but you can also help manage your symptoms with healthy eating, exercise, meditation and reducing alcohol. Anger and anxiety can be a symptom of overdoing it and leading a life which doesn’t fulfil your needs – take this opportunity to change things for the better.

When I coach women towards that better life, I  incorporate hypnosis into our sessions as hypnotherapy has a proven track record in helping women manage menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes and anxiety and is even recommended in the UK by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) as an effective treatment.
